Course Description
This course is primarily designed for beginners interested in learning practical self-defense strategies and defensive tactics. Students will be taught fundamental barehand methods of protection that increase their chances of surviving a physical attack. The course fuses stand-up techniques from Shotokan Karate and Krav Maga, striking techniques from Muay Thai, takedown techniques from Judo, and grappling techniques from Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. This course addresses themes such as physical and sexual assault.
Course Objectives
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will:
- Recognize dangerous situations and implement techniques in order to defend themselves
- Execute escape techniques, joint locks, strikes, takedowns, chokes, and submissions
- Demonstrate correct breakfall techniques as a result of being thrown, pushed, or slipping
- Understand the necessary fitness levels which support self-defense proficiency
- Gain self-confidence and bodily autonomy
