Stretching
Any time you exercise, you should make sure your muscles are warm and ready for vigorous play—especially if you still want to be able to play tomorrow and the next day and the next. Stretching for tennis should mimic the mechanics of playing tennis. Start out slowly to allow your soft tissues to adjust and spend five minutes getting ready to play. Shoulders, quads, hamstrings are three areas of particular importance.

Footwork
While shoulders, arms and core play important roles in tennis, 90% of the game is in your footwork. We are not all born fast or quick, but all of us can learn better moving techniques to maximize our potential on the court. Your tennis pro would have the best ideas for tailoring a specific program for your current state of movement.

Proper stroke technique
It is important to learn proper stroke patterns when we are starting out. Swinging incorrectly or too fast can lead to injuries, so your tennis pro can head off all those problems from the beginning. It sounds simplistic, but our first job in tennis play is to miss the net. That’s right—the net should never cause a ball rally to stop. So, work early and often on low to high swing patterns and learn to play high over the net.
Most of all, enjoy the process and you will soon be playing like a healthy champ!
